| Below you will find an overview of some of the works we are involved in. Volunteers and groups alike can join in in these projects and help provide hope and love to these people. Women's Bible Studies
Twice a week about 35 women meet in different homes around El Mogote and dig into the word of God. I have been amazed watching these women get excited about knowing God in a more personal way. Each of these women has a family and many difficulties to overcome but they show up each time ready to leave that behind for an hour and build relationships with each other and with God. These Bible studies has become a spring board for friendships, church growth, and a stronger Christian family. Children's Bible Classes
Three times a week, Wednesday and Friday night and Sunday afternoon, children's bible class is held in El Mogote. There are about 150 different kids that come through in any two week period. During the one hour class period the children receive a snack (often the only thing they've eaten since breakfast), a lesson from God's word, and love. These kids are usually starving for attention and the hugs and kisses they receive during class time are often all the affection that they receive. Their parents are generally to preoccupied with whether not a child has food to be able to spend quality time with their children. VBS
Each summer VBS programs are presented to over 700 kids. This allows the youth group opportunities to plan and present a project as well as one on one interaction with the kids here. VBS is also a great way to make contacts for the church and provide an avenue for clothing and food give aways. Helping Churches Grow
As the church in Honduras grows so does the physical needs of each congregation. Groups working in Honduras help to meet those needs, providing everything from lighting, to sidewalks, to extra classrooms. This allows the local congregations to worry about their members and not about how they are going to take care of the building. Medical Brigades
Each doctor that visits Honduras sees about 200 patients a day. These on site free clinics provide medical care to people who often have no access otherwise. Every child seen receives vitamins and is treated for parasites and many severe problems are discovered and treated due to the care these volunteers provide. Dental Brigades
A couple of times a year we are blessed to welcome dentists willing to donate their time and talents to see to the oral health of the poor in Honduras. This is a very critical need. The majority of people who come through the dental clinics have never been to the dentist and are in dire need of treatment. In the course of a week it is not uncommon for over 200 teach to have been pulled by one dentist. Providing Homes
Each year hundreds of homes are built for families living in conditions worse than most North American's worst nightmare. The homes that are built are small but sturdy and provide protection from the rain and cold that many families live with on a daily basis. These homes with cement floors also greatly reduce the amount of sickness the families encounter due to parasites and asthma from the dirt floors. Providing Clothing
Many people in Honduras lack the resources to be able to go out and buy new clothes and rely upon the donations of others in order to clothe their children. In the picture about a group from Indianapolis brought shawls, scarves, and hats to a community up in the mountains of Honduras. These people are extremely poor and have no access to health care or new clothing. Providing Hope
Many times the work of volunteers culminates in new followers of Christ. It is awe inspiring to watch these people latch on to the hope that is only found in Jesus Christ. Please come help us make fellow believers out of this lost world. |
